Brief history:
Blake Williams was born in Frankston on the 4th of April 1985, attending Baxter Primary School and later Frankston High School. As a child Blake rode dirt bikes, a Yamaha 50 and BMX bikes – a lot. From the age of five he knew he was destined for a life on two wheels and, together with his best mate Cam Sinclair, would regularly create jumps for his dirt bike in his back yard practicing for hours and taking inspiration from the late Australian Freestyle Motocross rider Jono Porter.
From the age of 12 Blake, who is better known as “Bilko”, would race dirt bikes on the weekends, and as he progressed his passion transformed into an amazing career. Things started to take off around the year 2000 as this niche sport began to grow in Australia.
Bilko soon turned to Freestyle Motocross, or FMX racing full time, and joined the world renowned Crusty Demons, who tour their heart stopping show all over Australia and around the world.
He made history at the X-Games in Los Angeles when he became the first international rider to win Gold in Freestyle MX, while he also won a controversial silver medal in the Best Trick category, using a new trick – The Flying Dutchman – that he created and perfected himself.
After his history making ride he was voted by his peers as the Transworld Magazines World’s Best FMX Rider.
In 2009, Bilko was named the Lusk Foundation Rider of the Year, and was also awarded a Bronze Star at Star Zone, Karingal as a local sporting legend. In 2010 Bilko has toured with the Travis Pastanas Nitro Circus, a show that has extraordinary daring acts and death defying feats.
With fans all over the world, this young man from Frankston spends a lot of his time in America competing, and in recent times he has travelled to Moscow and Madrid.
When at the family home Bilko has a very supportive family, and enjoys practicing his jumps and tricks in the paddock next to the house. He also likes to give back to others and loves to put a smile on children’s faces when he has the opportunity to visit sick ones in hospitals around the world.
The extreme sport has also come with its fair share of injuries including 14 surgeries, 22 broken bones and four knee reconstructions.
