Australian FMX Pro Open

The Australian FMX Pro Open is the brain child of Joel Balchin who has been a professional FMX Rider since 2002. As Joel heads towards the end of his professional FMX career he felt it was is his responsibility to create an environment for Australian FMX riders to have a credible local competition to participate in. Australia and New Zealand have some of the best FMX athletes in the world yet no major platform for them to compete locally. Introducing the Australian FMX Pro Open.

Date: Saturday 9th October, 2010

Location: Western Sydney International Dragway, Sydney NSW

Format Group Competition: There will be a minimum of 24 riders competing in a round robin. All riders will need to qualify for a place in the elimination round which will consist of 16 riders. Eliminations will be 4 groups of 4 riders. Each rider will get three runs of the dirt course with a maximum duration of 1 minute. Each run has a scored applied to it and the top two scores are combined to create the final score. The two riders with the worst scores will be eliminated and a new group is formed. The process will be repeated until 4 riders are remaining for the Final. In the final the run times will increase to 1 minute and a half. The top scoring rider from this group will be crowned the best FMX rider in Australia and New Zealand.

The format used at the Australian FMX Pro Open is designed to create an exciting knockout style freestyle motocross contest! This format gives riders more time on the course to help them find the comfort zone and essentially perform to the best of their ability. This format also allows the rider to drop their worst score which can be used like a life line. Make sure you get your tickets early and witness Australia’s best riders compete for the over $26,000 in prize money!
